Moorlanders MCC is a family friendly motorcycle club, based around Bodmin Moor in Cornwall, that meets regularly through the year for relaxed, social rideouts in the local area, and to attend an active calendar of motorcycling events. We welcome enquiries from local, similarly-minded folk. Those wishing to join Moorlanders MCC are asked to attend a few of our open meetings.
Membership subs for 2018 (1st January till end of December) are based on the cost of the public liability insurance that enables us to hold the Egg Run. Joining membership is £25 for individuals, £40 for families. For existing members, it's Full Membership at £20 and £30 for Family Membership.
Moorlanders MCC's roots lie in a trio of biker friends who, in 1997, had the good idea of organising an Egg Run one Easter Sunday, collecting donations to local children's charities and taking chocolate eggs to them. The run proved popular, and became an annual event, at which point it was necessary to get public liability insurance - hence the need to form the Club in 2001.
Forward to the present, and you have a diverse group of merry souls, some who are lifelong, everyday riders, some who are back on two wheels after a long break and others who are new to motorcycling. We have members mainly based on or around the fringes of Bodmin Moor and from further afield.
All share a love of safe riding, and enjoying each other's company and the excellent rides we can have locally. Our members range in age from teens to those in their 70s. The bikes in the Club are equally across the range - tourers, trikes, sidecar outfits, mile-munchers, etc. All our rideouts are designed with the comfort, safety and enjoyment of all riders. We ride to the slowest rider.
We all work together to organise an Egg Run every Easter Sunday, raising money, selling raffle tickets, marshalling - to what ever extend our lives permit. We're proud that this year we've raised £5,000 to for our chosen charities - Action for Children, Children's Hospice South West, and the ARB Learning Support Units at Camelford & Launceston primary schools.
Moorlanders MCC club members are automatically associate members of BMF, and qualify for a discount on insurance at many brokers. As a club, we also have a discount for members at Opie Oils, down Redruth way.
We're a realistic club, and understand that work, family and health commitments come first, but there's get-togethers twice a month throughout the year, and in the main season, we head off to local events and aim to organise rideouts for most weekends.
In winter months, we accept that 4 wheels are often more practical, and continue to meet for more social gatherings, such as our Bowling Night, Dodgems Do and Christmas meal.
